What Elected Representatives Cannot Do, I, Hii King Chiong “Can”!

29.03.2015--Majulah Miri service team leader, Dato Hii King Chiong, said it is the responsibility of social service groups to solve problems of the people! He will always put the people first and render assistance to the best of his abilities.

Hii, together with the service team, today made inspection on the recently upgraded Jalan 88 Off Jalan Riam. He expressed appreciation on the efficient work of the contractor which enabled residents to enjoy the upgraded road and safer driving environment ahead of schedule.

He said that the upgrading work of the one-km access road only took four days to complete and solved the over 30-year road infrastructure problem.  This was made possible with ‘trust’. He hoped users will use the road with care so that everyone can enjoy and benefit from it.

Meanwhile, Hii also thanked the residents for their thank-you notice in the newspaper. He explained that he only wanted to solve the problems of the people.

“If it were not for the inability of elected representatives and local council to upgrade the road, I would not have the opportunity to make contribution to Riam residents. The important thing is not who helped but rather finding solutions to problems and enhancing living environment for the people.”

Nevertheless, he was grateful to the city council and councillor Bruce Chai for taking action in trimming overgrown trees by the roadside.

Hii emphasised the importance of “good faith” in both business and social service fields. The same is practised by Majulah Miri service team in their service attitude, putting the people first and giving emphasis to performance.

He said that any promise made must be fulfilled to show good faith. Words mean nothing without actions.

He said that there were many livelihood problems accumulated over decades in Miri and the issue of Jalan 88 Off Jalan Riam was just one of them. Therefore, he hoped that elected representatives and local government can work together with Majulah Miri service team as the service centre had limited resources and some matters would still need the authority of the official representatives to make things happen.

Hii made promise to the people that he will never ignore their livelihood problems and will render assistance to the best of his abilities. The people’s support is his source of motivation.

Jalan 88 was upgraded with the assistance of Hii and councillor Bruce Chai. The construction commenced on Monday (23 March 2015) and was completed on Thursday (26 March 2015), three days earlier than anticipated.

The residents were thankful to Hii as he proved ‘action speaks louder than words’ and ‘the promise made must be kept’ with the style of a leader.

Jalan 88 was previously a self-built concrete road which was very narrow. Construction was previously self-funded by local residents. Now, the new two-lane road will ease traffic congestion and increase driving safety in the area.
