Riam Road No. 88 To Commence Construction Much To The Relief Of Local Residents

01.03.2015--After eager appeals by Hii King Chiong Service Centre and councillors, Riam Road No. 88 (over 1 km long) will commence construction very soon with its completion estimated at mid-year, much to the relief of the local residents.

Hii King Chiong Service Centre team members were invited to attend Riam Road No. 88 Chinese New Year gathering celebration where councillor Bruce Chai announced the good news.

Also present were Dato Hii King Chiong, councillors and many others to join the celebration and also road inspection.

The local residents said that previously politicians helped to request for road construction but to no avail for more than 20 years. The residents were very happy on hearing the news today and regarded it as a big Chinese New Year gift.

Councillor Bruce Chai said that the construction blueprint for Riam Road No. 88 had been submitted to engineering department of Miri City Council. Engineering staff will soon perform measurements and calculate construction expenditure. The new two-lane road will ease traffic congestion and increase safety of road infrastructure in the area.

Riam Road No. 88 is situated between SJK (C) Chung San Riam Miri and Lambir Road, and has a population of about 70 to 80 people (more than 10 households).

The current cement road was narrow and winding. Construction was previously self-funded by local residents.

The residents reflected their problems over the years to Hii King Chiong Service Centre. With eager appeals by the service centre and councillors, Miri City Council will commence construction very soon.

The residents also requested for trimming of overgrown trees along the road. Councillor Bruce Chai took action and expected the council’s contractor to immediately trim overgrown trees so as not to hinder drivers’ visibility.

Last year, the residents of two village roads at 7th Mile Bay of Miri-Bintulu road also sought help from Hii King Chiong Service Centre. The latter made request to the relevant authority and the over 20-year road infrastructure problem was finally solved.
