Hii King Chiong : Education Is Key To Sustainable Nation Building

08.03.2015--The board chairman of Miri Resort City Kindergarten Dato Hii King Chiong said that education is key to sustainable nation building. Hundred of years ago when the Foochow foreparents came from China to settle in Sarawak, besides working hard for a living, they also placed great emphasis on their children’s education and were very concerned about local educational development.

Hii was unable to attend Miri Foochow Association’s general meeting cum reelection ceremony today. He was represented by Mr. Hii Teck Yun to deliver his speech.

He said Miri Resort City Kindergarten was established in 2012 and had entered its fifth year. With the great efforts and support of committee, members and advisers all these years, the kindergarten progressed steadily and the number of students increased from more than ten to near hundred children. The administration was smooth and the accounts were healthy too.

Hii was very grateful for the careful supervision of the kindergarten’s board and concerted efforts of principal and teachers which encouraged parents from all races and ethnics to send their children to the kindergarten with peace of mind.

“The elders and seniors of our association had unique vision half a century ago to apply for land in Bakam for future educational use. The project took a long time to plan and was finally realised. This is also one common goal of all Foochows in Miri.”

He said although the kindergarten is a bit far from the city centre, with the expanding residential area in southern Miri and also the quiet and safe environment of the kindergarten, parents would still make it their choice.

He hoped that the newly elected committee will continue to care and support the kindergarten. With increasing number of students, the facilities must be upgraded and administration system must be enhanced.

He urged everyone to work together to make Miri Resort City Kindergarten the best in the region and contribute towards elevating Miri city as an education hub.
